The 3 kilometer long white sandy beach of Patong in Phuket is famous among holiday makers around the world. Some spend their time relaxing on this beach with awareness or care to keep a nice environment, while a few do not care and that leads to garbage created by humans either at sea and washed ashore or on the beach itself. The recent activity of ‘Beach Cleaning’ hosted by Siam Commercial Bank got together around 300 people comprising its staff, local beach operators and residents to join in. While the bank said it was part of the bank's work to promote social responsibility, the participants said they wished that the activities would set a good example for locals, beach operators and international travelers that we should look after the beach properly as it is such a precious value. These volunteers were also divided into groups to collect garbage at Tri Trang, on the south side and at Kalim beach on the north side of Patong to keep the beach attractive by keeping it tidy and clean. I just missed that activity due to another assignment at school, but I plan to join others like this. But what I also do, and encourage everyone to follow suit, is not to litter any places. This is Alex, from British International School Phuket, reporting for Andaman News.
