Do & Don´t in Phuket.
Thai 's are easy going, no fuss, no complaint and stay within their own business. Warm, patience tolerance which they are able to tolerate suffering for long periods of time. Losing ones temper is found to be low character or poor upbringing.
Thai's are friendly people as they known to say often "Chai Yen" which means "take it easy" and "Mai Pen Rai Yen" which means "never mind".
Sensitivity is a careful characteristic of a Thai. Normally Thai's will not speak till they are spoken to, which can create an unsettle atmosphere.
A misunderstanding could cause a friendship to become dissolved. Saying "I like you very much" to the wrong person at the wrong time, could.
cause a Thai lady to take it as "you love her". It would be better to watch the selection of words when talking to Thai's when visiting their country .
Here is some Do's and Not to do's while touring or visiting Thailand :
-Do offer and receive with your right hand.
-Do keep both feet flat and on the ground when sitting.
-Do use the wai correctly.(which means to greet,to salute (by bringing the hands together to the face);to pay respect to;to worship")A Westerner should never wai first and anyone who is paying for any service is the boss and the bosses don't wai first.
-Do exercise tolerance,as the Thia's have a great tolerance level.
-Do ask for a receipt this assures you have paid for something if someone ask
-Do make sure you know a local person well before accepting an offer.
-Do sit where indicated by a friend.
-Don't lose your temper as they see this as wrong upbringing.
-Don't hug, a firm 'Thank you very much' is enough. A hug will give the wrong impression and might cost a friendship.
-Don't touch any one's head for any reason. The head is the most important part of the entire body.
-Don't step over any part of another person or point toes towards royalty.
-Don't keep your valuables in a hotel safe deposit box. Entrust your valuables only to respectable hotels, which you have to decide by yourself.
-Don't leave your postcards to the hotel reception, they will probably never reach the destination.
-Don't walk into someones house with footwear on or step on a door threshold.
